Elk M1 API Thermostat

Hi all
Hoping someone can help.
 
Working on expanding the Micasaverde Vera plugin for the Elk M1. I am trying to find a way to discover if a thermostat is connected or not via the serial protocol.
 
Tried to use "tr" but it responds whether there is a thermostat available or not with LLTR##0003939390000CC. Does anyone know if it is possible as currently it will create all 16 even if they are not there?
 
LL = Length
CC = Check sum
 
Everything else remains the same for every thermostat.

You may want to re-post this in the marketplace/Elk subforum dedicated solely to Elk. There are employees of Elk that monitor that subforum and they may not see your post here.
