Elk M1 Gold Backup Phone/Cell/Pager

Hey all,

In the process of planning my install and wanted to know if there was a way to hookup the M1 to a secondary phone line? What about cellular or two-way pager based backup. I'm aware that these methods exist for a variety of security panels and figured there must be a way with the M1.

Hi David:

Do a quick search on the forums for "telular" and "uplink". If you have any specific questions I'm sure many of us can answer them.

The Uplink Anynet looks interesting. Let me make sure I've got this right, it connects to the M1 via a serial expander? So it can act as a backup link?

Also, do you happen to know the monthly or yearly cost of operating it?

Thanks, David

David:

I'm a Telular dealer. Others can help you with Uplink. Telular does not need a serial expander and it is transparent to the central station. Here is a quick installation guide http://telular.com/telguard/Files/TG7%20QIG.pdf. Monthly fees are approximately $10 per month for the cellular backup, this does not include your normal monthly land line monitoring fees. If you are in a fringe area there are some new satellite uplink systems.
