Elk M1: Logging a sensor when not armed

I have a motion detector that I've installed and I want to log it for a week or two to verify that there are no false alarms before I start arming it. Looking at the ELK log, I don't think zones are logged unless they are enabled and armed. Is there a way for me to make them log when they are not?

If you are just looking for it to show in the event log I have used Zone Definition 13 Auxiliary1 24 hr to accomplish this. Read page 30 of the elk manual for further description on the availible options.

If you have outputs (RB's, XOVR's, etc.) you could also drive a rule and latch a relay...or use the LV pigtail to drive a LED and latch that.

What about going ahead and making it a live zone so that it will be active when you are armed, but set it to be Silent so the siren won't sound and deactivate the alarm reporting code so that it doesn't report.  This way it should still log if it happens to false.  In reality I'd think you only want to log it while armed and not just because someone or something trips it during the non armed times.

I don't want to have to disarm it when it triggers and I wanted to leave it on during the day to give it the full exposure to sunlight, appliances turning on/off, etc. It's easy enough for me to tell by inspecting the logs when it was me who set off the sensor. So I ended up going with gatchel's suggestion. Only issue was I was working in the room with the sensor last night for 2 hours and managed to accumulate 500 log messages.
 
Is there a 'rule' that can be used to log a custom message? I looked quickly in ElkRP last night but nothing jumped out at me. Ideally I'd set something to limit the frequency of log messages that could be generated.
 
I'm only going to do this for a couple more days, just long enough to make sure there are no obvious issues.

I have the ethernet module currently installed to the serial port. My first thought was to use the ethernet module to send an email, but I haven't takent he time to setup email support yet, and it sounds nontrivial due to the need for a provider that doesn't use SSL.

An email alert would work or, as DEL mentioned, a PC logging everything would give you insight into your entire system.

is anyone aware of a way to log ALL rules activation on the M1 Gold??
 
( Newbie – no SQL/ Perl programming experience – just love playing in ELK RP etc)
 
or best way to de-bug ELK rules?
