Elk M1 + telephone remote

I have my elk system configured for telephone remote access and seems working, however, once in a while when there is incoming call,
I hear "tic tic tic" on the handset and the call drop. Any idea whats going on. The phone connection is as follows:
Optimum cable modem > RJ31x > NetCID > analog phone. Thanks

Check the rings before answer. The M1 could be answering the call if you let the phone ring until the answer value. When the M1 does answer the phone the house phones are disconnected. There will be a beep, beep, beep on the calling party's phone.

Spanky,
Thank you for your time. G29-G42(Special) Rings until auto-answer is set to 0 while Ring/Hang-Up/Answer is blank. Am I looking at the right screen here ?? What would be the ideal settings ??

With the rings set to 0, the M1 should not answer an outside call at all. Are you sure the M1 is answering or are you just getting a dropped call from the telephone network?

The "tic, tic, tic" is not a M1 generated tone that I am aware of.

It could very well be (beep instead of tic). I am positive that the telephone remote is working since I can get the status of the panel when I dial in from my cell phone with the settings that I mentioned, and you said it shouldn't pick-up !!! So... what does it mean then ???
