ELK starter

HI all!

I've decided on an ELK M1 system and could use hand so I know what to order. I never worked with a security system before.

I have a Lutron RadioRa 2 system, a couple Axis cameras with i/o ports, and a Bitwise contoller (for IR) I would like to integrate.

Can the ELK send commands over IP to my sub systems or do I need to go RS232?

I would start wih a few GE xmitters and build on. I definatlty want the Uplink 2500.

So far on my list:

M1GSYS4
M1XEP
M1XSP
M1XRF2G
GE Sensors
Uplink 2500

Anything I'm missing? Anything I else I should be considering right away?

Thanks!
Do I need more serial expanders

SGI,
The Radio Ra will take a M1XSP and the Uplink data trigger will take a M1XSP.

The Axis cameras can be used with eKeypad on the iPhone, I think.

Happy M1ing!

Thanks Spanky!

So I can't do ip commands to RadioRa or cameras? I was hoping for better integraton of the cameras than what i think the eKepad will do but don't know for sure. What I want to do with the cameras is either send them a command over the network or i/o, 1-2 minutes after I arm the system to start motion email alerts from the camera. Also, when i get home and and press my RadioRa car visor's home button it would stop alerts before I get in range of the camera. The M1 can do this?

If the camera can act as a client and establish a socket connection with the M1, you can send data back and forth.

The ELK IP232 Ethernet to RS232 module can be a client or server and can establish a socket connection with an ethernet camera to transfer data.

SGI, you need 2 M1XSP, one for the Uplink one for the Lutron

Thanks guys, I think I'm starting to get it.

What's the difference between the ip232 and m1xep then? Would the m1xep be able to take care of everthing ip?

IIRC, the IP232 is literally a serial over IP interface - for getting the M1 on IP... the XEP has a built in website you can use to control the M1, etc.

Thanks Spanky!

So I can't do ip commands to RadioRa or cameras?

Clarification:
RadioRA is a lighting device. You can send commands into the M1 using the M1XEP Ethernet module and control the M1 including lighting devices.

Software examples are: ELKRMS, iPhone, ElkDroid, ...

With the iPhone you can view and control many IP cameras.

The ELK IP232 is an Ethernet to RS232 bridge. For simple data transmission, it can be the interface from the M1 to Ethernet. For more advanced data communication including serving a Java webpage, emails, and Internet reporting, you will need to use the M1XEP Ethernet module between the M1 and the Ethernet.
