Elk / Vizia m1xsp firmware enhancement requests

i had mentioned this in our email thread (12/07-1/08) when we were beta testing, but is there any way you guys would add both of the following to the ViziaRF version of the serial driver? (what if i said "pretty please" ? what if i told you my mom lives down the road from you guys and i could have her bring you guys a big cake or something if it helps?)

1) initial polling on startup
2) support for the All Off/All on commands

There is many more requests for the remote lock interface such as working with the Schlage door lock. The problem is the Vizia Zwave does not support the latest generation of encrypted Zwave which is required by the Lock class.

Overall, I am very happy with the Elk <-> Leviton Vizia+ lighting setup.

I would like to see a configurable option to poll (when network is quiet/idle) a Z-Wave device every N seconds similar to function provided by ControlThink and other Z-Wave software controllers. If value is zero, then polling is disabled. I have noticed that my Vizia+ Z-Wave setup is very reliable. Occasionally the bi-directional status is not 100% correct.

This is not Elk’s fault per-se because I can induce same problem using a laptop running ControlThink by moving laptop to fringe of the receive range. This situation happens very infrequently and is probably due to the small number of loads/lights that I currently have installed. I can manually correct this problem by switching light on/off. ControlThink eventually resynchronizes light’s status without the previous workaround.

I understand polling is controversial and is not required for Vizia+ technology, but I still think it offers ability to improve controller/device map accuracy and support a wider set of Z-Wave devices.

If anything, I would like to see a statement of compatibility similar to Elk M1RF2G’s installation guide. I understand that Z-Wave devices are all supposed to interoperate, but the reality appears to be different. Either Elk or some conformance group should say which devices work with Vizia+ VRCOP. If I buy this Z-Wave device and install it into my Z-Wave network, Elk will be able to control the device. I would also like to see Brad's requests in addition to continuous polling in the Elk M1. I currently use an Elk M1 but I use J9AE for ViziaRF lighting since it supports initial polling, continuous polling and All On/All Off. However I would prefer to run ViziaRF off the Elk in my environment. What's ironic here is that J9AE was originally created based off my need for ViziaRF automation when other products did not provide it.

Initial polling is just a must. Otherwise you would need to activate every switch in your house before the Elk has an up to date state table. Initial polling is not quick... depending on the number of devices and how quick your zwave network is it can take a couple minutes. Is the elk able to do this in the background?

Unfortunately the ViziaRF product line does not cover all the different ZWave switch types so I have some non-ViziaRF devices. Continuous polling is needed to have a semi-up-to-date current level for those devices since they do not support viziarf state change notifications.

The Elk M1 does support groups so it can turn all your lights on and off with one or 2 commands but a built in All On/All off command would be nice. The only negative is that the ViziaRF All On/All Off commands are broadcast commands and are not guaranteed to reach every device. Groups are slower but more reliable.
