Experiencing noise problems with UPB due to PS3

I've recently noticed that my PS3 is causing noise problems which are keeping me from being able to control a lamp module. The PS3 and the lamp are in the same room and I'm pretty sure they are on the same circuit. I can have the PS3 plugged in but whenever it's on, it generates enough noise that the PIM can't see the LM.

I did some testing with UPStart and the signal level is good when it works, but goes to 0 and the device isn't even found when the PS3 is on. UPStart reports the device to be on the "other" phase.

This is the first experience I have encountered with UPB noise. I do have the coupler from the UPB kit wired in at the breaker box. I tried searching for others with this problem but since UPB and PS3 are both 3 letters, the search function isn't of much use.

So, anybody seen problems with their PS3? What is the best/cheapest solution to this problem.

You say noise but then you talk about signal - they are different. If it truly is generating noise that is blocking the UPB signal, you can use a filter on the PS3. If the PS3 is sucking the signal, which is common on x10 but rare on UPB then I'm not sure a filter will help. You may need to follow x10 practices for signal sucks.

Right, I kinda' mixed that together. I may need to do some more investigation, but my mind drifted back to the X10 thinking when the unit quit working with the PS3 on.

But you're right in that UPStart indicated that no unit was found, but it didn't report noise either. It may be that since there was no unit found there was no way/reason for it to report noise. I think I'm gonna' add a couple of other devices around the circuit and see what kind of measurements I get.

Having never had a UPB problem I wasn't aware of the sucking vs. noise state in UPB, i.e. that it is rare that it sucks down the signal. I suspected a filter would be the suggestion, but wasn't sure.

Get a UPB filter. There are devices the will suck up the UPB signal. I found that a number of UPS units that I had needed filters to keep the UPB signal strong.
