"Failed to connect to server"

Hi Guys,

Got a hair puller hope you help with.

I have a system that I have recently commissioned that today would not connect and all I get at the end of the attempt is "Failed to connect to the server"

Anyway here is the low down.

The M1 system and XEP have been working fine, was there yesterday and worked fine. I connected did some rules programming without issue. Probably connected to this system 20 times without any problem.

When I connect directly to the XEP or via the network and using the M1EXP utility from within RP2 and I can search for the XEP and can find it every time. If I try and connect to the XEP/M1 I continually get the "Failed to connect to server" message.

From the network connection I can connect to my system at home via VPN no problem at all so RP2 is OK, the network connectivity is Ok as I can see the local XEP.

Running Windows 7 on my lappy, have the lastest version of RP2 and XEP firmware.

Any thoughts? I plan on going back tomorrow and do a XEP reset and load the settings back and give that a try. Unfortunately I don't have a spare XEP to swap out to try.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks and regards,

Fleetz

Are you trying to use the browser or RP? if you are in RP, then it will not let you also connect via the browser at the same time. Its either one or the other.

Hmmm I can see the XEP when I do a find using the M1XEP setup utility, see the MAC address and now having toggled between the DHCP and static IP see 192.168.0.251 IP and it still will not connect.

Interesting I ping 192.168.0.251 and it times out yet the utility sees it every time!

I have checked serial cable Ok, Connected to the M1 via RS-232 and it is Ok

Time I think to do a hard reboot. Is there some instruction on doing a XEP hard reset. I can see the two reset pins at the bottom of the Web/LAN module.

unplug the power to it, and plug it back in! Double check your ethernet, and serial cable with another cable. I know they shouldnt go bad, but hey you never know! If you cant ping it, then I would say you have an network issue. But just try rebooting it first, usually cures alot of problems. Did you recently update the firmware or anything?

Rebooted many times.

If I see it when I use "Find" it is not the network.

I have swapped out the serial cable on my system. I have swapped out LAN cables and checked that any cable in the system works on mine.

I have connected directly to the M1 via RS-232 checked the serial settings in the "Globals" all ok.

Be nice to do a reset on the XEP before I send it back....

Usually when I run into RP/XEP connectivity issues, I have to do a full M1 reboot (not just the XEP), and the issues will go away.

Hi Dan,

Done that too on a number of occassions as part of the fault finding exercise.

I think it time for a XEP reset and reload of firmware, only I can't find the procedure to do it.

Thanks for your input.
