Fish Tank Monitoring

I am in the process of remodeling my 135 Gal Fresh water fish tank. I was wonder what others are doing other then lights for monitoring their tanks and what they use to do it.

So far I have:
135 Gal fresh water tank & stand
Rena Filstar xP3 Canister Filter
Dual Marineland 250 watt Shatterproof Heaters
Elk M1 Gold

Looking for:
Automation and or Monitoring
New Lighting

I wonder how many parameters you will be able to monitor electronically from the Elk in addition to temperature: pH, concentration of dissociated salts (conductivity), turbidity.

Back in my colledge years some students were building a microcontroller to monitor fish nursery tanks, but I dont remember what they got to measure.

Have you looked at things like what http://www.automatedaquariums.com/ offer? Its not Elk integration, but they seem to be able to monitor/control just about everything..
