Generic Ceiling/Wall Rough in kits?

Hi All,

Getting ready to discuss my many HA wishes with the builders of my new home and will need to give them some direction.

I have not fully defined the whole house audio yet, but want to put in what is necesarry to accomodate the most options. I am currently leaning towards russound but don't necesarilly want to be locked into this.

Is there generic rough in kits available that fit any brand ceilng/wall speaker or is it always linker to a brand? Is it possible to buy a grill separately from the speaker and mount it to the rough in kit so that the ceiling/wall looks finished eventhough i have not put the speakers in yet?

I have following the advice is many on CT here and am planning home runs from the wiring closet to a wall switch location in each room with 1xcat5 and 4x14guage speaker wire with the 4x14 guage then continuing to the speaker locations.

What size speaker (6.5" or 8") and wattage is typical for average whole house audio use?

Mav, you can use anyones pre-installation brackets BUT the caveat is some manufacturers 6.5" or 8" (which refers to the woofer size and not the actual cut out or overall diameter) speakers have different cutout sizes. Example on a 6.5" Klipsch ceiling cutout is 8.3", on a Proficient Audio its 8.25". I have found however that typcially if you go with the larger cutout that most others fit in it anyway (meaning if you cut out for the larger Klipsch, the Proficient fits also as the grill is large enough to cover the open).

I like caves idea of just running wire and cutting out later.

There are just grills you can buy. no link, no name, sorry. But they exist.
