I am looking at the Global Cache Itach unit. There are a little cheaper then the GC100 but i need to make sure the itach will do what i need before I buy.

Specs are here - http://www.globalcache.com/products/itach/ip2irspecs/
I dont understand what the difference between an emitter and a blaster is

What I dont understand is the specs talk about "Seamlessly connect, monitor, and control infrared devices over a network and the Internet." That to me implies it acts both as an eye and a emitter but I would think emitter and blaster are the same

The section of teh specs that deals with input/output confirms my confusion..

"Connector: 3.5mm stereo jack
3 Independent selectable IR outputs or sensor inputs
3 IR emitters included
1 IR blaster included (supported on 3rd IR port)"

how is a baster differnt from an emitter and does this thing have an eye/receiver? Does this thing to both input and output?

Better yet, anyone know if it supports the DC voltage sensor? I would love to be able to see if my tv is on befre I tell it do something.

A blaster is just a more powerful emitter.

The unit does have an IR receiver built in.

Each of the 3 ports can be configured for a DC voltage sensor input or IR output.

Thanks that was very helpful. I don't have enough cat 5 at tv to run one of these unless I remove my ira3 but I see they make a wifi version.anyone try that, is it any slower if you have good strength?

They don't seem to have the manuals online but I assume I can use dc sensor to see is tv is on?

Not sure how many wires your ira needs but if you split your cat5 as 4 and 4 maybe you could use it for both?

I too am interested in finally investing in a Itach. My curiousness if i get a wifi itach, is the blaster powerful enough to just put at my couch ? I dont have closed cabinets. I dont really want to have emitter wires everywhere.
I'd rather just blast at somewhat typical remote control range like the couch.
