HAI and new siren

I have just bought a new AG6 siren here http://www.responseelectronics.com/downloads/1364919412AG6_Wired_Siren.pdf and I am having difficulty in getting it working correctly.
 
I have connected the following:
 
HAI                               AG6 sounder
V+                                V+
Ext Horn Ground          V-
Ext Horn Ground          R-
Ext Horn                       SW- ST- (connected the strobe trigger to the sounder trigger inside the siren)
 
The alarm led is lit up and the strobe sounds when the power is removed, but it doesn't trigger when there is an alarm condition.
 
can anyone please advise?

OK, now that you've corrected your original post to show that SW- and ST- are connected to Ext Horn, I think that is still a problem.
 
The AG6 manual shows that these are negative triggers.  That is, when the voltage on them goes below 3.5V, the AG6 will
trigger.  But the HAI Ext Horn output is doing the opposite.  It is going from 0V to +12V on an alarm condition.
 
I think you need to connect SW- and ST- to one of the programmable outputs and define it to switch from +12V to
0V on an alarm condition.  Or use a relay on the Ext Horn output to switch from +12 to 0v.

Hmm...still having some difficulties- I think this is because it has a negative voltage trigger which basically activates when connected to ground.
 
I have tried connecting the trigger wire to a regular output and regardless of whether the output is on or off, it triggers as soon as it is connected to the ground

This is also the case if I connect output + and output -, set the output on and connect the trigger to output+ (although I don't understand why- while the output is on, why is the negative trigger activated?)

You need a separate relay controlled by an OUTPUT to ground the triggers.  Using the OUTPUT directly will not work.
 
You can test this if you like by connecting V+ to HORN EXT and V- to HORN GND, then manually touching a wire from HORN GND to either ST- or SW-.  With the OmniPro II in the alarm condition, the strobe or the sounder will activate when you ground the appropriate terminal.
 
EDIT:  I just happened to think that just connecting the ST- or SW- to HORN GND should accomplish the same thing without the relay!

I'm not sure that will work.  I suspect HORN GND is always at ground potential, even when there is not an alarm condition.
 
I would connect a pullup resistor (say 1K or so) to V+ and connect the other end of the resistor to the wire that goes to the ST- and SW- terminals on the horn, and then use the relay to ground this when the relay is activated by the EXT HORN signal.

Please note that my suggestion uses the HORN EXT to power the AG6.  I would just bypass the AG6 battery.  It serves no purpose when used with an HAI OmniPro 2 and the relay can then be avoided.  Warning!  Big assumption here that the AG6 will work without the battery.
 
In any case, the resistor is not required.  Just use a form C relay to switch the SW- and ST- connections between GND and +12.

Ok, I missed the fact that you had said to connect HORN EXT to V+.  So, yes, I agree your idea should work without a relay.

The battery is used to power the strobe and siren in the event that the power is cut or the panel is destroyed by an intruder. I don't want to bypass this. What about if I do this http://www.the12volt.com/relays/relaydiagram9.html with Ext horn being the + trigger - should this work?

If the power is cut, the HAI OmniPro battery will continue to power the AG6.  If the panel is destroyed by an intruder the trigger will be lost and the AG6 will not sound.  The AG6 battery serves no purpose when used with an HAI OmniPro.
 
However if you insist on keeping the battery, the circuit shown in your link is what we are talking about.
