HAI Omnistat Vs. Carrier Infinity Thermostat ?

Right now I have the Carrier Infinity HVAC with the Carrier infinity Thermostats. I do use the SAM to control it from the HAI OMNI PRO.

I have been thinking about changing out the Carrier infinity Thermostats to the OmniStat. To have better control over the system.

Any one have an Omnistat on the carrier infinity system? Any info would be a great help is this, or any info on the omnistat vs carrier infinity.

Thanks in Advance!

I am just about to install exactly what you have! What control don't you have with this setup? Also, what model of Infinity stat and which SAM are you using? Lastly, as I understand it, there is no need to run cat5 to the thermostats when using the SAM, in order to have full local and remote access. Is this correct? Thanks.

I just installed brand new Trane x20i units in the home I just purchased. They have a similar system called "ComfortLink II". In speaking with my home automation specialist, he warned me that they had problems with a recent job where the Carrier Infinity units were completely incompatible with OmniStats. The good news is that Carrier makes a special board that is used specifically for third party units (such as the OmniPro) to communicate with the system. Even better, HAI has updated the OPII to be compatible with this Carrier board.

The bad news is my new Trane units are seemingly incompatible with the OmniStat, and they have no component that will allow the OmniPro II to communicate. I'm hoping there is a way around this limitation that I have yet to discover, so it anyone knows more -- please share!

I have one of the Carrier systems right below the Infinity and it uses a similar "data" style T-Stat with multi speed blower. What's the board that Carrier makes that interfaces with OmniPro? I'd like to get it.

I can't speak for certain regarding the Omni stat, but I would be shocked if you didn't lose a lot of the special functions of the carrier thermostat. (I have a carrier) The carrier thermostat is able to monitor all kinds of aspects of the system and give you warnings and messages that a non-dedicated unit would not. If you go into the "installers" section of the carrier stat you will be able to see what I am talking about. It has all of the hours of operation, the pressure readings, a history of any faults, and on and on. Push and hold the "advanced" button for 10 seconds and you can scroll through and see all you would be missing.

Yea, the definite way to go is with the separate board that allows communication with third parties. That way you keep the carrier thermostat that provides advanced information, but still get to integrate the unit with your home automation controller.

Awesome ... I was just finalizing a decision to go with a full Infinity solution and was hoping it would be compatible with the omnipro. I was about to run with a lesser system to allow use of omnistats or Honeywell prestige tstats with redlink. Now I can run with supposedly the best hvac system on the market and control it via the omnipro ... Nice.

What board are you using to interface the Carrier T-Stat with the OmniPro II? I have the Carrier Edge T-Stat and it's running a multispeed airhandler with a separate board, but would like to have it interface with the OmniPro II.
