HAI OmniTouch Custom UI

Has anyone used the Omnitouch for a FLoorPlan UI
I want to put a floor plan on it as the home screen and, for example,
when i press the "light" button at the bottom it brings up my floor plan
then i press the room i want to control and that shows me the options for that room
is this possible?
seems like it could be doable if the UI is customizable. . i saw this on a crestron piece but
can't justify a 75k crestron system in a 300k house. . .
any suggestions or experiences?
thanks
MJM

It's quite doable -- haven't done it myself, but I've seen threads where others talked about doing it. It sounds like it should be fairly straightforward to do with Automation Studio. You might want to search threads in the HAI area, under Marketplace.

I would think that would be an option, with Automation Studio, but I haven't seen any examples yet.

I wouldn't assume it could be done.

Fairly directed, educated question, for someone claiming to be unfamiliar with the product.

mjmedlo,

This is very do able if you are using our 5.7e or 10P touchscreens. These touchscreens are ethernet based, and can be customized with Automation Studio (PC software). You'll need to design the floorplan in some other software package, as Automation Studio only imports graphic files (.gif, png, jpg, etc).

Thanks, Aaron. Can the floor plan be configured to allow direct interaction with the layout, i.e. press a room for control of that room? All of the Automation Studio layouts I've seen show buttons along the bottom of the screen.

Can you share any examples, Aaron? The HAI advertising dept is a little behind in this regard, showing all of the possibilities with AS.

I don't have any examples handy, since we try to make all of our default designs more "universal", so that our dealers can use them in their installations with out any major changes. A floor plan is something that is obviously very custom to a home.

What you can do is basically place your floorplan graphic in a panel, then you can put buttons on top of it. So you might have a button that looks like a light bulb. It can be off when the associated unit is off, on when it's on. You can place this button anywhere on the floor plan you want. Actions can be assigned to buttons so that they can turn the light on/off, or maybe jump to another page.

I've seen some people where pressing the room takes you to a page with all the stuff in that room on the page, which is another option. With a large home, fitting the entire floor plan on a 5.7e screen might be difficult.

Click on the door in the room and you get the list of devices for that room.

Is that what you were looking for?

VERY VERY similar. ..
just probably less graphics. ..
I do like this though. . the guy who has bid the project has told me 18k for my project. .. seems REALLY high
i think i can do a crestron prodigy for that or less. . .
i'm going to take a look at the program though
thanks to everyone who responded. . .i think this may be doable. .

Lastly,
the HAI rep. .can i link a Lutron Grafik Eye in to this system with rs232?
It's the bang &olufsen specific version but is comparable to the other grafik eyes. .
thanks again everyone

Nice work, Barry, thanks.

Can the buttons be configured differently, i.e. how flexible can the appearance be? As a crazy example, could you make the buttons completely transparent, or have the appearance of just a light bulb, positioned in the middle of a room on that layout diagram? I see those same buttons again and again.

You can use any GIF or PNG file as a button image. If you have a paint-type program that can make images with transparent background (I don't think MS Paint can do that), you could have an "image" with a transparent background and no foreground. Then you could overlay it over a floorplan. One limitation is that button images have to be rectangular, so it would work better to lay it over a straight plan view rather than the rotated 3-D view pictured above.

It seems that you could do EXACTLY as I was asking about.. . .
The transparent buttons could go right on top of the plan . .
I have an installer who said he'd let me have the program to play around with. .
I'll keep you all posted. .
Thanks to everyone who replied.
I think this moves HAI in to a previously Crestron/AMX dominated area of HA
specifically. . .better UIs

Wow, that is very flexible.

Cornutt, you say the button needs to be rectangular, but it seems that you could put a round colored pic in the middle of a rectangular transparent button, couldn't you?

You should have no problem with non-rectangular images. The only reason you seen the backcolor in these is becuase it is from AS itself and not the Smulator as I did not have a panel to connect to at the time.
