Silly question I am trying to talk someone through programming a hai switch and I can't remember!

Anyhow if I recall you hit the switch 5 times fast to put it in set up mode. After that you should just be able to sent it a on command to program it correct? This is not working what am I doing wrong. Basically I just need to reprogram a switch to change the house code on it so it I'd not effected by his seen controller.

My blog has a write up of HLC configuration.

Upstart config is a bit more involved.

ok went there couldn't find it. Can you post a link to it. It's kind of hard when I am in the filed to surf a blog from my smart phone, can someone just post a simple answer.

After you hit the top of the paddle on the switch 5 times in rapid succession, the switch will go into programming mode. This can be verified by the led flashing rapidly. After the switch is in programming mode, use the UpStart program to connect to the switch and reprogram it. UpStart is free from HAI, and can be downloaded from their website. If you do not have an existing configuration, you will have to add the switch using the wizard in the UpStart program.

HTH.

No, once you have the switch in setup, you need to send it configuration commands. If it's an HAI switch, you can make the controller do it. Easy way to do that is to use PC Access; in the status tab, go to your units list, find the unit you want, and right-click on it. A pop-up will appear that says "Configure device..." or some such. Click on that, and it will do all the configuring. There's also a way to do it from the console, but I don't remember the sequence of button pushes.

If it's not an HAI switch, you have to use Upstart.

Perfect thanks they are HAI switches using the HAI protocall so upstart is out. I don't have a pc with the dealer version os pcaccess at the site. looks like I am just going to have to go there tommrow. Was just hoping I could talk the homeowner through it.

You don't even need PC Access to program HAI switches. If the switches are already defined in the controller then you can program them from a touch screen. Just put the switch in the setup mode with 5 quick taps then on the touch screen go to the page that controls the load and press the "Config" button.

For example in my living room I have a room 6 button controller, switches for the lights and fan, lamp modules for a corner lamp and a table lamp.

First I put the room controller into setup.
Then on the touch screen I select Control > Living Room > Config.

Next I put the light switch in setup mode.
On the touch screen I select Control > Living Room > Go To > Lights > Config.

and so on...

As previously mentioned you can also do this from the PC Access status screen. Many people have commented about how easy it is to just go around programming the switches with a wireless laptop or tablet PC and not having to walk back and forth to a console.

Just make sure you have the latest version of PC Access and controller firmware. This feature was added in version 3.2.0.530 of PC Access and 3.2B of the controller firmware.

Wound up going there it all came back. There are no touch controllers in the house anyhow just regular key pads once I looked at it I remembered how. I really have to get my HAI demo system back up so I can trouble shoot this stuff, a lighting strike took out a bunch of my HAI stuff and my wl3 server broke again so haven't had the time to deal with it and can't really demo it till I get another hp home server so it can break again this is 3 of them on 3 year! Sorry for the rant it is one of thoes weeks where it is hot and my installers are just not showing up for work.

Sigh... my OPII is down for lightning too. Otherwise I would have gone to the console and walked through it and posted the steps. Sorry about that.
