Hello Crew

I am an electronics engineer from Knoxville, TN. My wife and I are going to get a larger home as our family recently expanded. This house will be the house we raise our family in so I want to make sure it is secure and safe.

My plans are to install my own security and fire monitoring system, fortify door jambs, and place security film over the windows. I also plan on having a small arsenal/man room to keep my gun safe and shooting supplies in. I would like to have some sort of biometric access control for that room and possibly an automatic pepper spray system.

My experience is in mixed signal and microprocessor dev, I know very little about home security terminology.

Welcome to CT! I am somewhat seasoned in home automation but am beginning in microprocessor development so I am sure your presence will be a great commodity to the forums. What do you think of the STAMP 2 micro-processing platform? The pure thought of some type of automated pepper spray system is awesome and is the very reason I frequent these forums... for new ideas that is. Welcome!

Welcome to CocoonTech! I hope you have some spare time on your hands - LOTS of it. There is alot of information on this site, you can spend days reading about it. Do some reading on the Elk M1G and the HAI Omni alarm/automation panels. They are the favored systems to build your castle around.
