I am looking for a simple thermostat (heat only) that can be controlled by a iPhone app to be able to set the house temperature remotely

There are several system that can be controlled via communication with a computer. But this would require that the thermostat be connected to a computer, and the ability to communicate with that computer from your iPhone.

A simplier solution would be to look at IP Thermostats. Something like the Proliphix IP thermostats might work well.

If you are going this far, go all the way and automate your home where it automatically turns the stat up and down for you depending on occupancy, and there's so much more you can do and it's fun to boot.
