Bedford, NH – HomeSeer Technologies announces its new Series 2 HomeTroller home automation controller. The new unit features a fan-less, diskless ‘hybrid’ design that combines the reliability and simplicity of conventional hardware controllers with the power and flexibility of software-based automation systems. HomeTroller is compatible with a wide range of wireless, hard-wired and power line automation technologies and Homeowners and integrators can choose from a dizzying assortment of human interfaces including push-button controllers, touchscreens, wireless remotes, telephones, and even voice! Like all HomeSeer systems, HomeTroller is also web-enabled and may be accessed by any internet-capable device from anywhere in the world.

“We designed the original HomeTroller with four important factors in mind; flexibility, reliability, energy efficiency, and affordability. The new unit is every bit as flexible as the original but offers improved reliability and a lower price.” states Richard Helmke, HomeSeer’s president and founder. “The original HomeTroller was very energy efficient, consuming only about 22 watts of power. With the Series 2 fan-less diskless design, we’ve cut that figure in half!”

HomeTroller is designed to work seamlessly with industry standards and products from leading manufacturers such as Cooper®, Lutron®, Intermatic®, Leviton®, Russound®, Monster Cable®, Microsoft®, NuVo®, Centralite®, DSC®, Aprilaire®, ACT and RCS (to name just a few). Support for the latest automation technologies such as Z-Wave®, and Insteon® is also included.

HomeTroller is slated to begin shipping in July, 2008.

At $895 including Software this does not seem too bad for a fanless, diskless unit that only uses 10 watts. I doubt that I could build a fanless diskless PC with the same specs from scratch for much less than that.

It does look nice, just keep in mind that this does not include all plugins. There is a nice comparison sheet on the HS site somewhere, I can try to locate it again if you no one else can.

No but if you already have Homeseer you get to take $100 off the price. It would be cool if they also offered a version wthout Homeseer for folks who want a second diskless/fanless XP box to drive touch screens or other PC based periperals.

The new unit retails for $895 but anyone who pre-orders this month can take $50 off. HS2 users who upgrade can also take another $100 off ($150 total). PLUS... all existing plug-in licenses are transferable, so there's no need to re-buy any plug-ins.

Is there an upgrade offer for 1.7 users  Also, will this unit be powerful enough to work with the new HStouch software?
