How to install a Elk M1PR Keypad Plug-In Proximity Reader onto a ELK-M1KP2 M1 LCD Low Profile Keypad

I also am trying to figure out how to use it with a 16 VAC the door strike with a M1 Gold panel. I just for the life of me cannot seem to find the J2 connector on the circuit board behind the keypad.

The J2 connector on the KP2 is located near the bottom edge of the circuit board, in the center.   Below the connector you'll see the label:

D0 D1
Reader

The J2 label is above the connector near the right edge.

You'll need a W039A cable for this connection.

For the doorstrike, you'll need to use an output from the M1, or the local output on the KP2, along with a relay to control the 16VAC to the doorstrike.  And you'll need to write some rules to activate the M1 or keypad output controlling the relay when the reader detects a proximity card or fob.

An application note is here:

Does the OP have a separate reader or the plug in circuit board unit?

You can't plug a reader into the KP2 directly and have it buried in the unit. The integral prox only fits in the original KP's. If you want to use prox on KP2/KP3's you need the separate pigtail and need to wire those to that, then plug in to the reader.

You use the KP's open collector to drive the LED on the reader for lock/unlock status, then the strike goes back to an output controlled by the panel.

The output on the KP's (all) does not have the ability to sink the current to switch anything but low mA loads.
