Hey guys new here. I have a buddy that pointed me here.
Simple setup. In this house, I don't currently have any HA setup with lights, mostly just inside A/V stuff. It's a newer house, built in '07.
I have 3 exterior lights on the front, controlled by one single switch inside, near the front door. I want to do a couple things with these lights. I want them to come on automatically at dusk, at a dimmed level. Like half power maybe. Then, I want to setup a couple small remote located motion sensors in various spots. When these motion sensors are tripped (only at night), I want them to turn the 3 lights up to full brightness. Say for 3 minutes or so.
That is pretty much it. The switch for these lights are located in a 2 gang panel. It has another switch for an interior light. I would prefer to leave this normal. If I have to swap in a paddle switch to match, that's fine.
In the future, I may want to do a similar setup, but using a switch that's in the garage, with one light on the side of the garage, and perhaps yet another one with the back. Both of these are controlled by a single switch for each. I don't really care if all the systems are linked or not, I just want them to turn on via their own set of motion sensors, and also on and off manually. The front 3 lights are the only ones I want to come on at dusk at half brightness.
I've researched products. Looked at Zwave stuff, and obviously the Smarthome stuff. X10 has some small battery powered motion sensors that appear that they would work, but I don't know if they would work with a dimmer, and full brightness? I like a lot of the Leviton products.
How would you guys set this up? Which specific products etc. Aside from what is mentioned above, I don't feel that I will ever want any more lighting automation, inside or outside the house.
