HV & LV Boxes. Non-retro??

Looking around on the net the best ideas I could find is...........

If you're doing new construction (addition, basement, whatever), have a small (one-foot square) recessed box built behind where the TV will hang on the wall. In this box, have a power outlet installed as well as double-gang electrical box for the AV cables. Run whatever cables you can in the wall, from the TV location to the spot where your components will be placed. I was able to also install a 1-1/2 inch conduit from this box down to the basement, and did the same thing in the wall near the components. So, whatever cables I needed later on could be passed through these conduits. This would also work up to an attic or drop ceiling.

.......... I guess they dont make the same style as a new construction but in that case you are in the framing stage you could do almost anything you want or run these wires to the location in the wall and then add the retro box after they drywall is up.

Mike, thought about something like that. looks like the trim piece is part of the whole unit thus taking the ear off still wont allow me to premount the box. (before Drywall)

no big deal. I just hate cutting drywall. LOL

Do you guys have any good sources for mudrings for new construction of various sizes? I can only find the 1 or 2 gang type at Lowes, and none of them are simply rings, they have these dumb cable holders built into them. I want just a simple opening, but maybe as large as 4 gang.

Well, I know our light fixture subcontractor can get all things Leviton, so that might be our route. I just know somewhere online I had found a lot of different simple mudrings, including some like 6 or 8 gang monsters.

I found these box but they are retro only. Anyone know a new-contruction box?

Hi Ranger,

Thank you for posting this link. It is exactly what I have been looking for. I am putting up a flat panel TV and need a plate like this. Sorry, I have never seen this type of wall plate, new contstruction or retro.

BTW- I found a pretty good price on this product here.

Thanks for the link! That is a great price. I was looking for a couple of these. I think they're like $30 or more at the local home store. Score!

Rod, THANK YOU! Just ordered six of them and NO ONE I could find came even close to that price. good find my friend. Snypez is right, SCORE!

Happy to help. BTW, I already received mine and I have installed one. Due to the length and a wall stud in the way, I actually mounted my box vertically instead of the horizontal way they show in the Carlon brochure.
