insects tripping motion IR cameras

I do not have any part information to describe. I'm trying to support a friend and may need more information. Anyways he tied a UPB input output device to respond when the camera closes its contacts to turn on lighting. The problem is on the camera there is a light that attracts large moths etc. they can't adjust the pixels enough. Do to the movement the countdown continually starts over and the lights stay on. They came up with trying lasers to do the contact closing instead, but I wanted to ask the experts.

Don't use the camera for a motion detector. Get a motion detector and connect it to the I/O module.

IR cameras are to be avoided if possible.

I double team mine so 2 cams see motion before it activates anything. You can also use motion vector as well if your DVR supports it. (ie only motion moving in one area to another)
