Does anyone have a PDF of the Installation Instructions for the GE NX4, 6 or 8 panels? If possible could you email me a PDF?

Thanks!

You mean like this one?

Edit: For some reason the link doesn't work from within here. On that page just click on Caddx and NX-8.

Actually the documents on the site seem to be very outdated. Many are over 10 years old.

What I am looking for us the latest installation instructions from various manufacturers to do a comparision. Does anyone have recently released installation instructions for any residential control panel?

Thanks

Are you expecting a new manual for a 10 year old panel? ;) Many of those panels themselves are very old. I bet you don't find a 10 year old manual for a 2 year old panel. While you may be right in that updates/addendums are not there, I doubt seriously that installation instructions from the original posted manual is significantly different, or anywhere different enough to make a difference.

Manufacturers are required to update their manuals for new requirements or changes to the products (product changes happen all of the time but may not be noticed by the installer such as firmware or minor construction changes). In 1998 and again in 2005 the UL Residential Fire requirements changed so all installation documents had to be revised as well as construction changes. Currently the Residential and Commercial Burg requirements are changing and manufacturers are required to update their installation instructions starting about a year ago and must be compelted by April of this year if they are UL or ETL Listed. There are questions about interpretations of the changes and the enforcement of the requirements by the agencies noted.

The current changes pertian to installation and wiring methods, construction of the equipment, and marking changes. Nothing an installer necessarily needs to worry about for most cases.

I guess I would say that to get the absolute latest revs like that you need to go to the manufacturer. And I certainly don't know all the rules/laws but I find I doubt a manufacturer would put much effort into updating and publicizing an older document for a old panel. Sure, they may make the update to appease the 'law' but they probably just have that 1 copy sitting around somewhere. That's just my 'assumption'. I certainly don't think a place like PanelGuides is going to put any effort into getting those, especially if it is trivial stuff not related to what most people need.

Have you looked at the latest Elk M1 manual? It is dated 7/31/07 and that is far past the original release date of the panel. But I would expect that manual to be continually updated as it is a currently sold and supported product.

Mfg's must not only update the manuals they must put them into production almost immediatly. UL controls the document content and if you change one sentence you have to go back to UL and have them verify they accept the change. Then they check that you are using it when they do their factory inspections which are randomly conducted unannounced etc. Most manuals need to be changed at least every two years, however, if you are creative you can future proof them to a degree. I have had to change some of my manuals 2 or 3 times in the past 2 years as we made changes to the products (most are close to 10 years old now).

I am very familiar with the ELK manual. It is probably one of the best manuals out there for a non Commercial Fire system. I also evaluated the M1 when I worked at UL and I know it complies with the requirements and I think they had even future proofed it for the new requirements coming into effect now while it was being Listed back then. Its also one of the easiet to get.

Thanks for your help and hopefully someone will jump in with some other manuals. I just got most of the Ademco books off of their site. I could use GE and DSC.

They have Moose documents over 20 years old that I thought was lost forever. I was just a baby then. :)

That’s for a V2. The programming is a little different from the original. The difference is restrictions in some settings, but the other manual that was posted earlier would work for programming.
