INSTEON, UPB, Z-Wave, ZigBee, Misc subforums ...

The CocoonTech forums have been getting a little busier (which is great for everyone!), and I am wondering if I should create a sub-forum for the popular home automation protocols? Since this is a community driven site, I figured it would only be appropriate to get your input.

The new forum structure would be something like this:

• Home Automation
  • UPB
  • Z-Wave
  • INSTEON
  • X10
  • ZigBee
• Home Security
• Home Theaters
• Mobile

Any HA related topics that don't fit in the new sub forums would be posted in the Home Automation forum like they are now. I think this might make things easier to locate, but I am not 100% convinced yet. What do you guys think?

I definitely see value in that; kind of like the hardware sub-forums... although, I'm not sure the sub-forums would have the volume just yet to justify bouncing in/out of them to check in. For targeted research for someone new though it'd be hugely valuable.

I think the regulars often use the "New content" buttons; so what would really be fancy is a way to set your preferences to include/exclude sub-forums in that "what's new". No offense premise guys, but you've been pretty busy lately and I'd filter you out of my results if I could! It just takes too much time bouncing into each forum to see what's changed, so I just stick with the What's New link from the portal (I like the results better than the View New Content that's in the top right of the forums). I guess in a way creating more sub-forums would make it even more time-consuming to check each sub-forum one by one.

I agree with Work2Play, at the moment they tend to pop up during the conversation with something else like the software you are using. Though I may start a post on ZigBee soon or just extend the current TZB20 thread.

I think I am with the others. Insteon has its own dedicated forums and I assume the others have the same. I like the cross discussions that one finds on cocoontech comparing the alternatives, one to the other. One would loose that, to some degree, if there were dedicated forums.
