Iphone 7 has no headphone jack

Man there's a lot of people looking for self-validation about choosing the right operating system for a phone that they paid for. Buy what you want, don't even bother characterizing the other camp. Like Gay Marriage, your life won't change one iota if someone else chooses different.

Totally.

My teenager uses iOS. Not because its because its better (or worse). Her friends use FaceTime and some other iOS only social messaging apps. Her 5S is dying. I pre-ordered the 7. She's annoyed about the headphone situation and having to use an adapter, doesn't want bluetooth wireless headphones, but her choices are:

iOS:
+ FaceTime
+ some weird-ass social media iOS only apps (dealing a lot with photos, i dunno which ones)
- wireless headphones

Android:
(reverse the above)

For me, I had a M$ SmartPhone from 2004->2009. Then Apple for 3-4 years. Then Google. I was chasing the best hardware. Now I choose Android because
+ Tasker lets me do cool HA Stuff (#1 reason by far)
+ integration with gmail / gcalendar is obviously awesome.

Do I care about who makes the operating system on your phone? Um, no. Don't give a crap. If Apple made a dumb move, the market will let them know. Google is making TONS of dumb moves with Android. I'm living with that every day.

Its a damn phone. Not everyone wants what you want. Multiple options is a good thing. Its Monday, make your coffee a little more Irish.

No, that's nonsense.
Thanks for taking the time to read the piece and supply such a cogent analysis of the current trends in voice interaction.  ffs

IVB, she has another option... use the wired, Lightning headphones that will come with the new phone. No adapter. No wireless headphones to buy/charge.

Oh, I didn't even know there were lightning headphones. Even better.

Yup, from what I've seen there will be identical [at least cosmetically] earbuds as previously supplied, but now with a lightning connection instead of the 3.5mm plug. Wireless headphones (3rd party) or [Apple] AirPods are optionally purchased.

And once those airpods are plugged in, you are unable to charge your phone at the same time without a 3rd party plug. The next question is going to be what is the option for a battery case and headphones? BT only?

And PVR proves troll status with yet another respectful and non-inflammatory commentary about how Cupertino's products are the best in the world and not a premium status symbol brand over anything else.

The odds are that the next president will either be:
1) The corrupt politician who is hiding her health issues and wants to spend $800B/year bombing other countries on their own soil while mass incarcerating US citizens for smoking a plant, or
2) The racist politician who is hiding his tax returns and wants to increase the amount of money we spend to bomb other countries on their own soil while mass incarcerating US citizens for smoking a plant or touching someone else who has the same kind of peepee they do.

I'll save my outrage for that instead of worrying about what someone else will do when the $750 phone that they bought is running out of battery and they need to decide between charging it and listening to music. Thats not even a #FirstWorldProblem, thats a #1PercentProblem

There's a difference between responding to a provocation and inciting it.

And, again, nowhere did I say that "Cupertino's products are the best in the world".  What Stacey Higginbotham says is:

But look deeper: I see Apple's decision as a sign that it's going all in on wireless sound, which is a way to beat Amazon's Alexa and Google's efforts at the voice user interface game.
Maybe, just maybe, shouting across the room at a little device isn't the only path to voice control nirvana.  Amazon did amazing work with far field microphones to make the Echo work as well as it does.  But the damn thing has to be listening all the time and that's well over the creepy line for some people.[1]  Maybe using a digital interface with your wireless ear buds will be just as convenient but under your control?  Certainly, it is not as range-limited.

At this point, we don't really know how well Apple's Air Pods are going to work.  They are based on Bluetooth but some special Apple sauce that makes pairing painless.  Apparently you can transition instantly from using them with your iPhone, iPad, Mac, and maybe the Apple Watch.  I haven't seen any demo of that, yet.  And use them as a standard Bluetooth headset with non-Apple products albeit using the standard Bluetooth pairing process.

Cost-wise, I read that Air Pods are actually a bit less than other wireless Bluetooth buds.

(Dammit, here I am posting analysis and opinion when my sole responsibility on this board is to troll.  Oh well, I'll try to do better.)

[1] Has the FBI yet demanded voice recordings from Amazon?  It is just a matter of time, right?  Will the NSA force them to monitor for "trigger phrases"?  Or is that in place already?  When people come into your Echo-equipped home, are you obliged to inform them that everything they say may be recorded?  And used against them?

If someone wants to point out that some Android phones already have dual lenses, maybe we could talk about the details.  Like the fact that reviewers say the software on the LG phone sucks.  Or that the Huawei phone combines a monochrome sensor and a colour sensor. As far as I can see, neither of them get anywhere close to 10X zoom.

and incremental improvements make the iphone 7 revolutionary? can you imagine what apple fans will be saying when they can organize the icons on their iphone home screen any way they want without silly hacks?  let me give you a hint

@PVRFanThis forum has post blocking for other posters that like to irritate with juvenile attacks like that.

I actually avoided  some of it, from a certain individual that like to make a habit of it, until you repeated it.

Oh, I see now.  Apple has too much showmanship in their events.  Who do you suggest they emulate?  Google and their interminable keynotes?  Samsung...no, a dead man could give a better presentation than a Samsung exec.

How about Steve Balmer in his Microsoft days?

You will have to be more specific.  (And, in fact, your second sentence is just about impossible to parse as English.)  I believe I have only responded after I have been attacked.  With sarcasm, satire and snark; not personal insults.
