Klipsch Subwoofer (BASH AMP) with USB Control? RT-12d

I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with a usb controlled subwoofer. I have written a few RS232 drivers and typically there are protocol commands that are available for download, but Klipsch tech support tells me they know nothing about usb control for my subwoofer (despite the manual saying to contact my dealer for more information). Are usb protocol specs usually given out by vendors or am I stuck only connecting the sub's USB connector to proprietary equipment? If so, what A/V equipment might that be and what standards are used?

Manual only says this:
"“USB†– This computer interface allows access to additional
advanced features within the subwoofers room correction
software. Optional, proprietary Klipsch software and a higher
level of technical knowledge are required to correctly utilize this
capability. This port can also function as an alternative control
RT-10d, RT-12d
interface with A/V Control systems that can utilize a USB hookup.
Please contact your authorized Klipsch dealer or Klipsch Technical
support for more information."

Only useful references I could find was this review:

The USB port allows more advanced users to access additional menu options in the Room Correction software. Proprietary Klipsch software is required for your PC in order to use this capability. Included below is a screen shot of the software showing the PEQ parameters used to modify the frequency response shown. Contact Klipsch Technical Support for more details if you are interested in using this advanced PC software.

Try to get the software, since it should come with the driver. Many USB devices show up as virtual serial ports, which might make analyzing this protocol easier.

Thanks. It turns out I was able to order the room correction software for free from my Klipsch dealer. I'm interested to see what exactly it does, but I think it just plots what the calibration mic sees. It'd be neat if it allows for complete control of the sub. If the software does offer complete control, I'll have to look into spying on the serial port like you suggest.

I did call Klipsch again, and found a tech support guy who knew about the usb control feature. He told me the control feature was never actually implemented so I would have to use the IR port on the back :)
