Lightning/Voltage Transients and Security Alarms

Looking for professional tips to prevent false alarms due to nearby lightning/transients on a low-voltage security system. What are the normal causes of false alarms when lightning strikes nearby and how can they be prevented? Obviously a direct strike cannot be dealt with.

A good start is having whole-house and local surge suppression, but what kind of surge suppression? Most surge suppressors shunt excess voltage from the hot or neutral lines to ground. What about ground-transients? Or higher-frequency noise on the power line? What about protecting against induced current in low voltage lines? I've read that using NC loops increases the noise immunity over EOL/resistor based loops. Any other tips? Thanks!
