So I switched my main desktop to Ubuntu this weekend (been using it on less important machines for years), and am pretty happy with it. However, there are a few Windows based programs, which I can't find a good counterpart for on Ubuntu.
I do have a copy of CrossOver/Wine, but I would like to avoid using this. Thanks!
- RSS reader: In XP, I used GreatNews, a lightweight RSS reader, very fast, doesn't slow down when handling 60+ RSS feeds. I already use ThunderBird for some feeds, but it used to be really slow when adding many feeds, so I ended up switching to GreatNews. I looked at Lifera, but it felt slow, so I didn't really play with it.
torrents: I like to subscribe to certain podcasts, which support torrent based downloads. I use an older version of uTorrent for this. Great program, RSS support just works, very small and very stable. I can't seem to find anything which matches all these features. Deluge looks interesting, but its RSS support (through plugins) seems to be limited, and I haven't seen much progress. Azeurus is too bulky, so what else is out there?
irc: I am a die hard mIRC user, so Pidgin, xChat have been disappointing in comparison.
