All,

i want design security system that can connect to existing LAN. here is my design

sensors ---> local alarm panel <-----> LAN <------> centralize panel

local alarm panel: collect signal, convert trough data and transmit via LAN
centralize panel: get data from LAN/WAN and convert it into lamp indicator. besides that centralize panel can give command for reset (timer or manual) to local alarm panel.

for this design, what kind of local alarm panel and centralize panel that i should buy? what brand?
i use LAN because utilize my own network beside make a new wired system.

thanks

recosmic,
Welcome to Cocoontech!

You'll find that many security systems work like this:

Sensors ---> SecurityPanel <----> LAN <----> Other Equipment (like a PC)

or like this:

Sensors ---> Sub-Panel <---> RS-485 <---> SecurityPanel <----> LAN <----> Other Equipment (like a PC)

There may be other configurations but these are the two I've seen.

thanks for your info @123
'other equipment', can i change it with usual panel (dry contact panel content with relay or others)? because i want both panel can communicate trough LAN,

if i want use your suggestion system, could you give me name of security panel and other equipment? series and brand.

"Other Equipment" must be a device that is able to communicate via a LAN and be equipped with a software application able to speak the protocol defined by the "SecurityPanel".

Both ELK (M1 Gold) and HAI (OmniPro II) make Security/Automation equipment that can communicate via a LAN.

If your existing network is wired with cat5e (or similar) wire, then you might be able to repurpose some of those wires to act as the RS-485 network to connect subpanels and expander boards to the main security panel if they are not located in the same place. I guess it depends on how your system is wired (ie are the wires in the correct locations, and how are they terminated at each end, and where you plan on placing the main alarm panel).

sorry i still can't get the idea. :)

let me describe more detail, i want install 6 point motion detector(outdoor type). for now if i install new wired network will be costly, that why i want use existing LAN because near alarm panel has computer point.

from sensors activate alarm panel then alarm panel can giving alarm signal to guard house the information, but only lamp indicator (at guard house) where the sensor activate nothing more. so i need alarm panel and centralize panel can communicate each other trough LAN.

if i'm using both M1gold series for alarm panel and centralize panel, but with different function, one as sensor input and send data to centralize panel for condition? this method can apply in this system?

Thinking in another direction, if you simply want to transmit contact closures over ethernet you could use something like this...

http://dataprobe.com/coe8_contacts_over_ethernet/index.html

They are a bit pricey depending on your needs.

They also have a web based monitoring page so that you could monitor them remotely from a 3rd location with a PC if needed. If you are only monitoring from a guard shack and nothing else you may be able to use only the web interface to monitor. The receiver could be wired to trip a strobe light, buzzer , etc to wake up the guard when he/she is sleeping ;)

You can also have more than one monitoring location if needed. (ex. Guard shack and security office) using 2 receivers at different locations, up to 32 different output units.

Edit:
(I suck at proof reading)...
