Looking for a simple but affordable MP3 player ...

I'm looking for an affordable ($50-$79) MP3 player, which will be used to play music in cars. All it needs to have is a headphone jack, an easy way of navigating files (supporting folders would be great), show up as a USB mass storage device (chargeable via USB is a bonus), and maybe have a tiny display which shows the current track playing.

Any suggestions?

I use a SanDisk Sansa and it works well for me. They can be found cheap now and then.

How easy is it to turn it off, and resume playback of the song that was playing? Do you have to navigate menus?

Simply hold the power button and it shuts off... holding again and it turns on and comes back up withe the song that was playing last in pause.

Are the Sansa's still requiring you to use Windows Media Player to add/remove files?

My wife had one a couple of years back, and it required it, and wouldnt show the folder structure like a standard USB device. Thus, I was not able to simply drag and drop files into the device's folder.

I have no idea if this would be a deal breaker, but figured I would bring it up.

No, not with the Sansas. You have to switch the mode from sync to mass storage on the player itself (not exact verbaige). It is under the settings in the MP3 player.

My wife has a Sansa. After 3 years, parts of the flash are getting corrupted; however, it is a nice, cheaper MP3 player. She likes it a lot. The slot is nice for more memory.

Edit: BTW, it is charged via the USB cable. It uses a wheel that you rotate clockwise and counter-clockwise with a center "enter" button. It is very easy to use. Also, I would stay away from the refurbished ones. My brother-in-law bought one and had to send it back twice for warranty repair and, I think, finally gave up on it.

Based on the positive reviews of the Sansa players, and the features they offer, I purchased a Sansa Clip 4GB unit. Both the Fuze and Clip are on sale at many locations (Best Buy, RadioShack, etc.). Thanks guys!
