M1 and EZ8 questions

I have a couple questions about the difference between the two controllers. From what I can tell the main feature the EZ8 doesn't have is voice talk back and telephone support. Is this correct? If so, can I add that capability down the road to the EZ8?

Are there differences in the max number of serial ports or lighting protocol either can support?

Also, not tied to the controllers, but other than form factor, is there any differences between the KP2 and KP3 keypads?

Thanks,

Jamie,

I think this page on the Elk website is what you are looking for. I believe it answers all of your M1Gand EZ8 comparison questions.

I am not aware of any differences between the KP2 and KP3 other than the door cover over the keys. Elk has a comparisonpage for them too.

Jayson,

Thanks for the reply. I had seen the two comparison pages for the Elk hardware. Mainly concerned about if the voice capability can be added to the EZ8.

Another question about the EZ8 controller. Why would one use the M1EZ8MSI instead of the M1XSP? My understanding is the EZ8 does not come with a serial port like the M1Gold, but to add one can't I just use the M1XSP? The M1EZ8MSI plugs into the RJ-45 port if I'm correct, does that mean I wouldn't be able to use the M1XEP module?

Thanks,

To use the XEP you need the M1EZ8MSI to become the main serial output. Unless your system is going to be very small the M1G may be the most cost effective in the long run.
