I just installed a M1KPB and the instuctions say it has a 'speaker' which I can see on the circuit board. Is this an actual speaker or just for the keypad beeps?

The speaker in the M1KP is for the key and warning beeps. The SP12F, 32 ohm speaker works good for a local recessed mount speaker for voice/siren or you can take the speaker out of the plastic plate and put it behind the keypad if you want voice/siren at the keypad.
