I've been a long time lurker but now I have a question that I haven't been able to find an answer to.
I have an ELK EZ8 panel with an ELK-M1ZSLZW and a VRC0P +3 with 2 associated Schlage locks. I can control the locks using rules from the ELK but what I really want to do is perform a task when the lock is unlocked. It is my understanding from reading the manual that I can do something like "WHENEVER THE FOLLOWING TEXT IS RECEIVED: "<ULOCK1^M" THROUGH PORT 1" I can then perform some task. It seems that the ELK is not receiving any text or statuses from the locks.
I know the locks are sending responses because I see them when I connect the VRC0P to my laptop and watch the connection with HyperTerminal. I've also had the locks previously associated with a Homeseer system and it was able to see the status of the locks. Is there something I'm missing? I connected the M1XSLZW to my laptop via a Null modem serial cable and I see the something like <S00 or something like that when I connect. When I reboot it, it prints a few other lines. That's it. I'm also able to manually control the locks via HyperTerminal with the VRC0P.
I'm hoping one of you has some other things I can try. I attempted to call ELK tech support but was rudely told I was not able to talk to them as I'm not a professional installer or dealer. I installed the panel myself so unfortunately I don't have a professional installer to talk to. I understand why ELK doesn't want to talk to the end user because it could end up being a support nightmare but in my opinion, if I can talk to them intelligently about what's going on, they should be able to make exceptions.
