New home owner...where is a good place to start?

Oh ya, that's the other thing I wanted to tell you.....make sure you go with Brand A products only, because I've had a lot more success with them than with Brand B*.

*Note: "Brand A" and "Brand B" are just placeholders, and can be used interchangeably with any known HA brand out there, depending on who you talk to.

:)

But what about Brand C? Have you not heard of them? I heard from an uncles friends cousins brother than Brand C was cheaper and better and easier to use than Brand A or B

;) Thanks, i'm well aware of opinions, and especially those versed on the internet!

That being said...are there any HA products that would be the equivalent of BOSE in the AV world? Generally speaking BOSE Blows...and that is the normal opinion of many audiophiles, so what are the HA market BOSE equivalents that most everyone dislikes? :-P

From what I read here I see the only way to go for you as a software solution. It's the only thing that is going to be able to integrate all the technologies you speak of. I'm most familiar with HomeSeer, it's more than capable of handling all you mention, but like has been said there are others you may want to look at as well.

For me it's Insteon, of course for someone else it'll be something else. ;)

Fire and security protects your other investments regaurdless of what they are, valuable or invaluable. :)

If you do it too cheap you are only out the controller which is normally not the expensive part, the sensors and whatnot will normally work with all controls.
