I am new to home automation technology and could use suggestions from some experts. I found a great deal on Z-wave components at Radio Shack and need some advice on controlling all my new toys. I've done some reading and have an idea of what I need but all opinions are welcome.
Here is a list of components I already purchased:
QTY / PRODUCT / PRICE PAID
1 / Schlage Wireless Starter Kit / $89.97 after $10 off $40 coupon
2 / Schlage Wireless Remote Deadbolt / $59.97 each after $10 off $40 coupon
1 / Trane Programmable Thermostat / $49.97 after $10 off $40coupon
4 / Schlage Wired Camera / 19.97 each after using two $10 off coupons buying two at a time
Current Plan:
After doing some research I have an idea of what I think is the most cost effective way to automate my home. I want to use an older PC tower running HomeSeer Pro with an Aeon Z-stick S2. I assume I can wire all four cameras to a basic router and connect it to the PC. Radio Shack also had GE Z-Wave products on clearance; I was considering buying some dimmers and outlet controls to complete the house. Over time I would be interested in adding a garage door opener and some outdoor light controls. I would like to communicate to the system via an iPhone.
Help:
I am confused about a few details and could use some advice.
First off, do I really need the Schlage wireless bridge? I could save $30 if I exchanged the kit for a deadbolt. It looks like I can control everything I bought as long as I have the plug-in with HomeSeer/Aeon Z-stick.
Anybody know if the cameras are compatible with my software and network setup???
I was considering mounting one of the cameras outside. I didn't find any specs on the operating temp range. Any thoughts?
For anybody looking for a great deal on these components check your local Radio Shack. You can search Google to find the $10 off $40 coupon. I used it six times at three locations to find all of the stuff for my house.
Thanks in advance for the suggestions.
