Newbie Z-Wave set up question

I apologize if this has been covered already. Feel free to point me to the information or an FAQ somewhere.

Basically, what I want to do is to control Z-Wave locks using VRC0P. I'm reading the installation instruction and it says that I need a programmer? What's the purpose of it? Just so I can assign node IDs? Is VRC0P incapable of it?

Also, I'm not really planning to do any complex scenes or anything like that. Just looking for basic functionalty. Which one would I get? Aeon makes something called "minimote". Would that work or am I better with USB stick? And if I get the stick, will I be able to assign the node IDs without the software or should I get the software to go with it? If I could get either, is there benefit of getting stick + software vs. remtoe?

If someone could clarify this mess in my head, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Take a look at the documentation for the leviton stuff here (at least some place to get you started) Basically you need to program the zwave network and teach it how to communicate. I'm not a zwave expert, just getting into it myself. I have the VRCOP +3 and the USB Installer tool. The software referenced in the URL is free.

That's the first part. The 2nd part is what HA software you are using to interface with the VRCOP to control your zwave devices. The programming guide for the VRCOP +3 can be found here . The document goes into detail in the first page about how things should be set up.

Hope this helps get you started...
