OIIe UPB Questions

I am beginning my adventure into UPB and have some questions...

I have an OIIe and a mixture of HAI, PCS, and SAI UPB devices. I configured all devices using UpStart. I am still learning how to use links, but for now everything important is working.

The main thing that is bugging me right now is that I can see the status (most of the time!) of the devices through PCA or my 5.7e, but the OIIe will not control any of the devices. I understand the status is not always going to be correct based on whether the load was turned on directly or through a link. I would like the status to always be correct (I assume this can be done through links and flags?) but one step at a time!

I have a 6 button scene switch which I would like to use to detect the state of lights in a room (ie. kitchen light on, button A is illuminated). Unfortunately, I cannot figure out how to get this to work if there are multiple lights in the room. I tried creating a link adding presets for each light and the indicator but this did not work.

Lastly, does using some sort of structure for UPB unit numbers make things easier in the long run? Maybe something like the HLC structure? I currently only have 7 devices so changing things isn't that big of a deal.

Read this thread: http://www.cocoontech.com/forums/index.php...c=16596&hl=
and then go to the links in post #4. There is detailed info there on how to setup HLC mode with Upstart. There is no reason to use flags, the OIIe should track everything on its own.

If you are able to control the devices with PCA, then the OIIe is controlling them, so I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say the OIIe will not control any of them.

Thank you for your response and the link. You have been very helpful in a number of my posts!

PCA will only show me that the unit is on or off and it is not always accurate. If I try sending a command it does nothing but change the status. I have the same results with Snap-Link and the 5.7e.

Switched to the HLC method and status tracking and control through the omni is now working!

I am however having an issue with a 6 button scene switch. I originally programed the switch in UpStart in a non-traditional way. I have it so pressing the "On" button turns the top light on my ceiling fan on and off and the "Off" button turns the bottom light on my ceiling fan on and off. The "A,B,C,D" buttons are currently not programed to do anything. Ever since switching to the HLC method the "Off" button no longer works properly. It is still programed in UpStart to function as described. However, it is always illuminated. If I press it the led will turn off briefly then turn back on. If I press it again quickly before it turns on again it will turn on the light. It behaves this way even if I change the unit id to an id that is set to UPB instead of HLC in PCA.

Any Suggestions?

Which keypad are you using? HAI or PCS?

HAI...

When in UPStart, make sure you have the Transmit Compoments (Links) set for the correct button, them go to the Receive Components and make sure the correct links are matched on the On and Off Buttons and that it says Do Nothing when the indicator comes on... This is the LED tracking portion of the keypad. One of the issues with using HLC, they limit the functionality of the devices to a pre-programmed formula. That is fine at first but as the installer and system grow, the devices possible functions are limited, hench limiting what the tech can offer to the customer... Just my opinion... :-)
That is probably the biggest error installers make, they do not set the LED tracking on the keypads, which is a must if you want a Toggle or Super Toggler to function properly.
In the future, think about the PCS keypads, their GEN II version has individual LED control for each button and it can even display status from other links...
