Onsia Speakers

Anyone have any experience with these speakers? I'm a few weeks away from getting a room drywalled and they would be perfect for me.

I just don't want to pay $150 per speaker when I can get a 6.5" Yamaha ceiling speakers for $43 at Costco if they don't perform similarly.

Although I have never heard these speakers, I think you are paying a premium for the invisible feature there. If you don't require that the speaker be completely invisible, then I bet you can find cheaper speakers that are comparable sound wise.

I really do like the invisable aspect of these. I don't think inwalls or ceilings will blend in this room real well.

Those are speakers are gonna be REALLY appreciated when your wife or the next house owner drives a nail through it to hang a picture.

My local Lowes had a display with these Onsia speakers and IMHO they sounded like crap.

I'm not sure a $43 speaker is going to sound any better though.

Well it is certainly the only speaker that tells you to cut the speaker to size. I wonder what that does to the sound quality? I mean if you cut 3" off one side and 5" off the other, will it still sound like a full size speaker? If not, what are you loosing?

It is a really neat idea. But I would definitely want to hear them for myself before purchasing. I'd also make sure I listened to cut down speakers if they were going to be required in your own set up. I cannot imagine that cutting it has no effect on the sound. Something has to be effected by it.

Well I did a very informal test. I picked up an inframe Onsia($109), a 6.5"Yamaha ceiling speaker($39), and an OEM Systems 5.25 in wall that I get from a wholesaler for $10. I have use the OEM's for HA announcements and actually thought they sounded pretty good.

If your looking for a good comparison test move on to a new thread. I cut some holes in a big box and threw some insulation in it. In went the speakers with the Onsia mounted on the wall. Hooked up a little home stereo to my ipod and had the wife come listen.

Apperance wise the Yamaha looks the best made. The Onsia is very cheap looking in apperance.

Hands down the winner is the cheap OEM. The Yamaha is ok but definitely not as good as the smaller cheaper OEM. The Onsia was not impressive in any way. It would be ok for HA announcements I guess.

A special thanks to Lowes and Costco for there great return policies.

...with the Onsia mounted on the wall.

Granted I'm extremely skeptical of the Onsia speakers in any configuration but the research I did on these earlier this year indicated that they had to be fully installed to sound as intended. I.E. they had to be completely mudded over and dried. (Which conveniently makes them extremely hard to "try out"...)

68,I'm in need of a fair amount of in-ceiling speakers, for background music and HA annoucements...are those OEM speakers the same kind that setnet has?

I had read the same thing. Thats why I picked up the in frame unit. It just hangs on the wall. They also need 40 hours of break in time. I don't think that would change the results though.
Did you buy the speakers at costco.com or in the store?

In store. model=NS-IW280C
