Outdoor Surveillance camera help/suggestion needed

Hi everybody,

I'm shopping around for an outdoor ip POE surveillance camera. I would like to install my first camera by my shed aiming toward the pool and hopefully also have a view on the rest of my backyard. I don't have to spend lots of money on the camera but I would like something reasonably price with good quality. I live in Montreal Canada meaning winters are cold therefore need something to resist the cold weather. Not sure if I want a bullet or dome style camera. Any suggestions on camera style or model. Is Foscam good quality? I also saw some Vivitechs between 200 and 300$ on aartech.

I'd say either Mobotix or Axis, however I'd recommend POE+ as a minimum out to the camera or split it using a high powered POE injector with a dongle to drop POE and +12VDC separately, like the units Lanpower makes.

Based on the application and assuming a heater and most likely IR's...you're going to need high power or a separate power source for reliability unless you go into consumer grade hardware.

YMMV.

Acti has some newly released cameras in that price range with good quality. Take a look at the E32/E33 for bullets and the E72/3 for domes. Not sure how it works with the Elk but they support ONVIF.
