Playing with Microsoft Surface

Had the opportunity to sit down and play with a couple of Microsoft Surface machines at the developer's conference in LA... This is some pretty slick stuff. I know it's not the best quality, but I took some video with the phone. One is a flicker stream of things tagged with PDC, I think, and the other is a chess board.

I can definitely see how multi-touch technologies like this could play well into the HA realm... just need to either get off my keister and code it myself or hope that someone else is already working on it. ;)

I had an opportunity to go to the redmond campus a couple times earlier this year, and in a few random places, they had the Microsoft Surface PC's set up (especially near their Home of the Future display).

Very cool technology with some seriously lofty plans for the future. It seems that so far, their biggest apps are the multi-touch music and photo programs, but seeing the demos, in the future they're going to do some awesome things with photos, music, etc.

Honestly, I can't wait until they become semi-affordable. Today, even the developer version is $15K; and they don't really offer a consumer version yet.

It could end up being a pretty cool home automation device. Imagine having a "touch screen" with all your house and A/V controls embedded in your coffee table. You'll neve loose the remote again!
