Premise Premise Web Conference.

Motorola Premise
It's all user-driven so feel free to describe what you want to get out of the meeting.

Well, I learn the most from how-to's....so, some kind of simple "get device talking to your interface" kind of thing. I'm particularly interested in simple web page interfaces.

I guess the best question is....what do I need to have done ahead of time before the conference? Just installed premise? Anything else that needs to be installed?

OK, we can cover:

Drivers
Different kinds of drivers (native, Module, Minibroker), installation, configuration, binding to Home objects, etc.

User-interfaces
Automation Browser, MiniBrowser, XBrowser

Having Premise on your PC would be best. The DimDim service is completely web-based and there's no client software required.

Hi beelzerob,

I'm pretty sure you and I are close to the same level when it comes to Premise. I started off about a week ago by getting Premise installed on a dedicated machine and then playing with it for a day or two. I then downloaded the training videos from 123's skydrive and followed the suggested order of viewing which is:

SYS001 - Intro to SYS Technology
SYS102 - System Topology and Controlling Devices
SYS103 - Introductory Programming
SYS201 - Intelligent IR Control

You can find the videos here: http://www.mediapcforums.com/node/7 (fixed URL to point to primary source)

Once I got through the videos I had a pretty good idea of how things worked but I'm sure only of taste of the capabilities of the system.

I'm now at the point where I've done a "Reset" and started over with a blank Premise configuration. The only HA device I have connected to the Premise system is a CM11A.

Hope this helps,
Ken

If you're pressed for time, review the contents of the Premise Wiki. At the very least, check out "How to build a Premise Home" in my HowTo Videos.

BTW,
My Skydrive is a Secondary Source for the video-tutorials because it can take a looong time to download from Skydrive. Try using the Primary Source for better performance. All of these links are documented at the bottom of the Premise Wiki page.

Hi 123,

I got the link to your skydrive from the "Welcome to the Premise Home Control Forum" thread under "Where do I begin?". Can you update the link in that thread to point to the primary source?

Ken,

Thanks for bringing that old post to my attention. Its content was outdated and has been removed. The Premise Wiki is the preferred 'landing page' and I do my best to keep it updated.

Can someone record these sessions like what was done for the above mentioned videos? It would be nice to have these available for late-comers as well as those who might not be able to make the web conference.

DimDim can record the session but there are a few limitations. FWIW, I don't plan to use live video, only audio, so it should avoid one of the limitations. However, we will probably hand-off control from one user to another and that bumps into one of its limitations. I guess we'll know how well it really works after trying it.

BTW,
If an attendee wants to take control of the meeting (i.e. become a presenter), he/she must install a browser plug-in (see here for more info). You don't need the plugin if you simply wish to observe the presentation.

I have a program on my Mac called Audio HiJack Pro and as long as my browser session stays up I can record the audio coming from my browser. That should help with the limitation when passing control around. It can save as MP3 audio which I think is pretty standard.

There has been a misunderstanding and someone thought there'd be a web conference today. There is no meeting scheduled today (Saturday, June 20th). I'll post a meeting invitation, and send PMs, in advance of the meeting date (whenever that might be).
