Prewire location for shades?

Well, I just looked at the directions on how to install the motor:

It looks like what I previously posted is correct. Is it really less than $200 to set this up for one window?
IR roller shade motor = $108
IR Remote = $29 (when added on to shade motor purchase)
4 foot roller tube = $12 (added on)
Brackets = $2.50
End plug = ~$3
Power transformer = $20-$45

Is that all it takes? wow.

So what's the story with the battery wands? You just have to make sure your roller bar is long enough to house both the battery wand and motor inside? I would prefer hard-wired, but I assume battery is for locations that you could not hard-wire...

Is this all really that simple?

Does anyone have their's set up dual purpose? ie... regular blinds for day to day use, and black out shade material on the electric shade?

I would email av-outlet and tell them exactly what you want to do and they will tell you what you need. The guy over there (forgot his name) was really helpful and responded to me in less than a day. I agree it really isn't too complex and doesn't have to be expensive.

I am most interested in horizontal blinds. They ofcourse have a complication in that they need 2 method of control. Lifting/Lowering and tilting.

Anybody done this?

I know there's a x10 module for doing this. I believe it has a motor built into it. The only limitation is that the blinds need to have two strings to raise them. ie...you pull one string down and the other string raises. This would have to be the same for the tilt action. The blinds would have to have two strings, one lowers and the other raises when tilting.

This would rule out pretty much all of the cheap blinds with those plastic rods that you spin to tilt them. I think the expensive wood blinds have strings for both raising/lowering and tilting. Those blinds might work. You would need two of the x10 blind modules. One for the raise, another for the tilt. The problem with these modules is that they need to be plugged in since they have a motor on them. So you would I assume need a power outlet on each side of your window, yuck

As you can see these are more for drapes, but I think if you have the right blinds you could make it work. At $100 each, and needing two of them, I'd prefer the somfy style ones for a little more than that...
