Projecting messages on the ceiling or wall?

Hi,

I was curious if there is a device like this:

But that would be smaller scale to send messages on the ceiling?

I have a clock that projects the time on the ceiling.

http://www.smarthome.com/1960.html - this does the same thing & sends text based messages (not SMS) on the ceiling based on weather. If we could figure out how to make it send other messages that could work well.

Any ideas on how to make this work?

It would be nice at night for the clock to alternate between time & zones that are "on".

That would be really cool! I guess someone will have to take one of these apart and find out what hardware it uses.

Hmm, it's not very cheap, but you could just use a pc connected to a projector. Have the projector turn on and the message scroll, then shut it down. Obviously not want you want to do, but I can't imagine what it would take to reverse engineer one of those little clock things to accept messages

I wouldn't say that smarthome linked product displays text messages on the ceiling. Just time or temp. It probably doesn't support letters, just numbers...

Or get a cheap LCD and mount it to the wall to display messages. display art when not in use.

I recall seeing a cheap projector made for kids recently. That, combined with a PC or a BOB Board, would do it.

This is the only "cheap" projector I can find right now.

Just use a small graphic LCD or char LCD and the right lens.

Or for major bonus points make a laser projector.
