Question about Elk Accessories

Good Morning, I am still in the process of planning out my security system. I have a few generalized questions about some Elk Accessories.

What are they for is pretty much my question.

What would you use a "ELK Delay Timer 1 Sec - 60 Min, 12/24V" for?

Or what about: "ELK Sensitive Relay, DPDT, 12/24V"?

Or "ELK M1 16 Output Expander, 8 Relays, 8 Voltage Outputs"?

Or "ELK M1 Relay Board, 8 Form C Relays"?

Or " Data Bus Wiring Hub"

Or "ELK Products Two Way Microphone for M1 Controls"?

I see all these different accessories, but im not sure what purpose they would serve. I know the Elk M1 Gold system is highly expandable to all sorts of different tasks and zones and such. In the end I want to secure my house, and I intend to get into the occupancy sensing, home automation, etc.

Like I mentioned... General questions, so general answers are okay for me!

Thank you for your time!

Not everything necessarily requires an M1. The delay timer and relay are accessories that can be used on their own. The two way microphone/listen in interface allows the alarm company to talk to people in the house in the event of an alarm without a person having to pick up the phone. Think, "I've fallen down and I can't get up.." It also allows you to listen in on what is going on, in the house if you call in via the phone interface.

The output expander does talk to the M1 and allows you to do things like sprinkler control, open/close your garage door, low voltage lighting, access control, etc. It's a nice thing to have. It has 8 relays, and 8 voltage outputs to run really low voltage items or to hang additonal relays off of if 8 isn't enough. You can hang the 8 Form C relay board off of the 16 Output expander to get 16 relays.

The data bus hub is a convenient way to connect everything up. With it you wire each bus device (keypads, M1XIN, M1XOVR, M1XSP, etc) to the hub. Without it, you would daisy chain the devices instead. Not required, just a wiring convenience some people like to use.
