I am trying to determine if using the Rain8 controllers is the right way for me to go, now that I am finally getting around to installing my irrigation system. In the past, I have used standard sprinkler timers that you purchase at Home Depot, and these have been pretty rock solid. I would like to keep the same reliability with an automated system, which is why I am concerned that the Rain8 would not be the best choice.
It seems that the Rain8 can only be controlled by a PC. Is this true, or are there some of you who have been controlling it with an Elk M1?
I see that there are lots of people using CQC to control their Rain8, but I worry that if there is a problem with the CQC server, then my plants don't get watered. During the summer, we get a lot of heat, so a couple of days without watering, and I could potentially lose a lot of planted material. My CQC server is pretty solid, but it is still a computer.
I will have 12 zones eventually, which is why I thought the Elk RB route would be a bit cumbersome.
Thoughts or suggestions?
