Sage HD Extenders are Available Again

This device is about as good a hardware device that I've ever used. I really wished I had ordered 4 of these but I can get by until they get them back in stock.
Hey Mikey, he likes it! :)
Oh yes he does like it. What's even better is the ComSkip and plugin to auto skip commercials. This combination is absolutely a kill app.

I finally put my HDExtender in this afternoon. Just got some interesting unsolicited feedback from the wife who just started it up to watch TV.

She said "hey, what did you do? The picture quality seems MUCH better." (I used to have an MVP in high quality mode).

I wonder if this means she's more likely or less likely to approve the 2nd Plasma purchase for the MBR...

So, she is really commenting on the difference between SD and HD, not the the extender produces a better quality picture than other stuff. I'd be interested in your feedback about how well it performs with DirecTV live viewing. Like, is channel changing noticeably slower than just the D* receiver itself.

Live TV surfing on my HD100 take approximately 1 to 1.5 seconds per channel. It's slower but not near as slow as others had complained about. Considering it starts a new recording each time I change channels I think this is very acceptable.

Sorry I was a little unclear - she was watching an SD program. I did the test using an HD program.

Rupp replied, I haven't watched Live TV since Sep '03 (which is when I bought sage). I didn't even watch the Superbowl live - I had to keep pausing it as the kids kept coming in.

But last I rememer, the D* receiver is pretty dang slow just by itself, enough to bug the crap out of me, so there's no difference in my mind between being bugged and being really bugged.

Yes, changing channels is very slow - I'd guesstimate 3 seconds. Thankfully I never need to
I just rechecked and my HS100 is just at one second. I wonder if this depends on the speed of the pc running the server software?

I would think it's more a factor of the actual STB, as external serial control is typically an afterthought in these situations. Bruce - which one do you have?

Yup it comes down to how you control it (IR or RS232) and how you have configured it. With IR you can increase or decrease the delay between IR transmissions to the STB. Still I too don't watch live TV so I don't care.

I use Serial control to a D10 and whatever the newer version of it is (can't remember and no number on it).

I doubt it's a server issue - mine is pretty much top end... (I built it that way so I wouldn't have to touch it for 5 years)
