SageTV HD Media Extender Info pics+price

So, how does the guide work in Sage? Is it updated more realtime so changes/delays in programming will be reflected? It just kills me when you are following a series and one in the middle is missed, and it is not duplicated anywhere else.

That's a great question, I have no idea. I don't timeshift football, so I can't tell you about the latency.

There are ways to get HD with HDCP into your PC:

I think the problem becomes if they are supported by the Sage server or not.

I might be missing the point here though...

Those don't have *component* inputs, just the following. You'd need component or HDMI inputs in order to achieve what USM is asking for.
- F-Type Coax input for Analog TV / FM Radio
- F-Type Coax input for HDTV (ATSC or Clear-QAM)
- S-video input
- Stereo audio input
- Composite video input

The answer to "which formats" and 1080p was just posted over on the SageTV forums. This just keeps getting better & better.

A plugin exists for this, however I think it is more for the sporting event itself rather then the programming afterwards. I dunno it hasn't been an issue for me but I too don't watch sports.

Well it really has nothing to do with actually watching the sport. The point is a program runs longer than it was scheduled for in the guide, so ANY programs that are scheduled to be recorder after that with be off, unless the guide is updated.

I do know that there's a daily refresh of the guide, but if a program changes within refresh->airtime, i dunno.

I can't imagine that TIVO's have an instantaneous or near-real-time update if a sporting event goes into overtime - how is it handled by those units?

I don't know of any system that handles that scenario well. With our comcast HD-DVR (which we despite, btw), we know when recording a football game to also record the show afterwards too or we'll almost ALWAYS miss the last half of the 4th quarter. Happens loads of times already this season.

Regarding sports running long... a couple options

1 is padding. I have 6 tuners, so I pad every sports event and every program that is usually affected by it (my wife's Cold Case for example Sunday after football). With 6 tuners, I never have conflicts... and the padding only takes up a little space until it's watched (with about 2 TB of storage, I have more recording time than I have even been close to being able to use, even in HD)

2nd option is a plugin for Sage that monitors ESPN (or some website). If you are recording a game, it checks every 5 minutes if it has finished. If not, it extends the padding. I haven't used this option (due to 1 above) but I've heard it works well for "big" sports (football, basketball, etc.), but doesn't for things I like (F1 and Rolex racing, etc)
