setting up alarm in detatched garage.

Sorry - thought I read you were going to put a P212 power supply in the garage? If so, that'll power everything - the smokes, the databus, etc.

Yes. Originally, I was. but then i though i might be able to install in house, then pull a power cable 100' to garage. I think I will be ok with 18gauge wire. I may use solid red 18/4 until i can get the proper wire (I have plenty left over. )

For now i have few devices/ minor loads in garage.

I connected the XIN last night and powered it up. So far so good.

I was wondering if it is possible to pull power off of an XIN from DBH? Or is that a bad idea...

I really only need power for two motions at 10mA each.

I wired the 16 zone expander off the databus hub, and then the KPAS off the expander. I pulled power off the expander to power both motions. This was temporary setup. I measured 12 plus Volts off expander.

But the keypad and alarm seems to be doing some screwy stuff. When i set off alarm, turn it off by inputing code, then it goes off again... and some other weird stuff. I guess it does not help that I am unfamiliar with the KPAS.

Tonight, i will try to run dedicated power line, now that i got some wire.

Look at the log, are you getting "system startup" or similar? You want more than 12V out there.

Are there programming issues between the areas, zone types, etc?

I will look tonight. I am just getting my feet wet with partitions/areas. I still do not have a good concept of this. I need to do some more reading/homework.
