Single Source Controllable Volume Control

Hey all, there are about a million options for various audio things out there that connect to OmniProII, What I am after is the ability to control the "master" volume of a single source from my HAI touch screens without having to buy a new system, and change all my wiring in my house. My House currently has distributed audio all from single source using 4 or 8 ohm volume controls. We never make changes to the VC's, we just walk in and turn the main volume up on the computer when we want it on... If I could do this simple thing mute/unmute/volume then I think it would be that much better.  So, does anyone know if any of the HAI connectivity partners or Leviton even makes a controllable single source volume control that is speaker level I/O?

Thanks in advance.

You could always just use a relay or two that's controlled via one of the OPII outputs if you just want mute / unmute.

Then you have all sorts of options to mute / unmute.  Via program, button, flag, UPB switch, you name it.

Simple and cheap.

Good idea neillt.  One could also use this relay idea to enable an in-line resistor if total 'muting' was not desired (i.e. control between full volume and a reduced volume).

What is the source you want to control?  You made reference to a computer - so is the computer the source? If so I'd think you could trigger scripts that increase/decrease volume by 10% at a time or toggle mute.

Correct, its just a computer. An Apple Mac Mini to be exact. I'm ultimately trying to get volume control from my OmniTouch 7's that should be on their way, so everything is in one place. I would be willing to buy a single source or output device if I could find one that worked well with Omnipro II... I have looked through Nuvo, Russound, and of course HiFi 2 and haven't found anything like I'm looking for. I'm all for spending a few hundred bucks, just don't really want to spend $1000... especially when I already have multichannel amplification that works, i just need that source control, or I could catch it on the output side as well...

The relay option wouldn't be horrible, but it would just be custom buttons, wouldn't be under the "audio" section of the touch displays if I'm thinking correctly.

Any other ideas? Thanks again guys.

I have to think this could be accomplished with HaikuHelper running on the MacMini set up to respond to an event on the touchscreen - even if you have to adjust the volume via applescript.  I'd post a message in their subforum.  I'll bet you can pull this off for nothing more than the cost of HaikuHelper which you'll probably find lots of uses for.
