Smarthome(tm), the world's leading authority in electronic home improvement and automation, today announced a partnership agreement with silicon supplier Integration Associates that will lead to the development of a family of INSTEON Integrated Circuits (ICs).

INSTEON is a dual-mode (powerline and RF (radio frequency)) true mesh networking technology optimized for home management and control. Simple, affordable and reliable, INSTEON links together core home systems such as lighting, security, comfort control, consumer electronics, appliances and safety sensors for remote monitoring and control.

Under the terms of the agreement, Smarthome will work with Integration Associates to develop enhanced INSTEON ICs. In a co-marketing agreement, the new silicon will be made available to product designers wishing to use the INSTEON protocol through Smarthome and Integration Associates.

"INSTEON is the only protocol to seamlessly combine RF and powerline to create a robust and reliable dual-mode home management network," said Nick Dutton, director of business development for Integration Associates. "Quite frankly, it removes the complexity from home automation installations, and customer acceptance of this new protocol should grow exponentially."

The INSTEON IC product family is designed to bring together the INSTEON network stack with the processing, memory, powerline and RF components into a single package solution, thus reducing size, latency and design complexity.

"This partnership will leverage Integration Associates' advanced RF design capabilities to manufacture ICs that are optimized for INSTEON," said Dan Cregg, Smarthome's vice president of engineering. "By using Integration Associates' fully integrated RF technology with advanced features such as the automatic antenna tuning, which provides enhanced performance, reduced INSTEON product development cycles while providing the Home Automation industry's lowest cost Bill of Materials."
